Hand Molds:
Did you ever want to make one of those molds of your child's hands but cringed at the $20 price at most craft stores? Here's a way to have a fun time with your child, save some money and have a keepsake for life:
Modeling Clay - Make your own!
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1 1/2 cups warm water
Food coloring or tempera paint (optional)
Dissolve the salt into the warm water and let it cool. Add the food coloring or paint to the water. Add flour and knead the mixture for about 10 minutes. Use a rolling pin to roll out sections. Stamp your baby's hands and feet into them. Bake each section at 325° for about 1 hour. Make sure you bake it until it is as hard as a rock or it will eventually mold. You can coat the finished item with a water-based sealant (non-toxic, of course). Poke a hole in the top before you bake it and you can string a ribbon or rope through the hole for hanging!
